During my last visit to Japan, I was given an interesting gift from a close friend of mine. It was a box with a plastic carton shaped pig in it. It was a cute toy that was all I thought. My friend then said to put this pig in my fridge and it would talk. I was confused ... Firstly it talks ? And why do I need to put it in the fridge ? I didn't really think much of it until I reached back to Bangkok. I opened the package and put it in my fridge...and it TALKED ! It actually talked every time I opened the fridge saying things like " Hey how was your day ? I'm hungry are you ? Drink lots of water ok? ..etc" . At first I thought it would be a bit annoying for something to talk every single time I opened the fridge, but it turned out to be pretty fun and interactive for my family and I.
This cute fridge animal is called Fridgeezoo and it has been around since 2010. Ok this might not be the 'latest' trend but it is still 'trendy' since my trendy friend bought it for me ! Carrying on, Fridgeezoo actually has many types of animal characters originally speaking in Japanese. Currently they have ones that speak in English and Mandarin as well (going global !) Why are they in the fridge you might wonder? The whole creation concept of these guys is all about the environment. Global warming, deforestation, pollution, and a lack of food led these little guys to look for a new home...a place where it is cool and has food. That is why YOUR FRIDGE is the perfect place for these animals to live in. Aligning with this concept - if you leave your fridge open for too long - these animals will actually tell you to close it so that you can save power which leads to helping the environment in a way.
So what do these critters say exactly ? Each time the fridge opens it says different things each time. For example my piggy says (in Japanese) :
"Good morning, what's for breakfast?"
"Hurry up! You are going to be late!"
"I'm hungry. What will you be cooking?"
"Don't forget to hydrate yourself and drink lots of water !"
"I wanna eat lots of snacks and meals today"
"Welcome back home. What are you going to eat ?"
"You are up so late!"
"Please close the fridge, food will go bad soon"
"I'm sweating, please close the fridge"
Other animals say different things so if you do end up loving one of them I'm sure you might want to collect the rest of the series as well. Why not just make a mini farm in your fridge ?
Currently, they have a couple of series of Fridgeezoo :

So where to get these cute animals ? You can get them at the leading electronic stores in Japan Yodobashi, Bic Camera or Tokyo Hands. OR if you are not planning to go to Japan anytime soon - go ahead and get on Amazon haha..
Overall, I would say this is a perfect gift for any of you singles out there! If you have any single friends or you are one yourself I'm sure sometimes you would enjoy coming home to someone (or something) welcoming you home - just think of them as your fridge pet! Eventually you will want to talk back to it with a giggle. Even if you are not single it's pretty entertaining and if you have kids they will love it! Also a good gadget for you to practice your Japanese , if you are into language learning. Not only is it cute and interactive, but it is helping you to save the environment!
Of course if you are a person that does get annoyed easily with anime character sounds and prefer peace and quiet at home then this product is of course not for you!
Thanks for reading through the end ! Till next blog.
